NYC Transit Control Center Visit

A small group of ACM Members (seating was limited) were invited to the New York City Control Center on October 23. Thank you to Joe DeCarlo for arranging this very special visit to the Control Center. With a very knowledgeable tour guide we learned about the history of the New York City Subway System which is the largest system in the United States and transports 4.6 million passengers a day. Technological improvements on this incredible system are being made on a daily basis and will continue into the future. After 90 minutes of a very interesting presentation on the system, we were invited into the control room. The control room is the size of a small auditorium where we witnessed “live” communication and train tracking on large screens – one for each train line. We were able to compare those lines with the latest technological advances and those that are getting the new technology. This was an education for all as we learned how much more efficiency technology can bring to this great system. Our guide was able to answer all of our many questions. After the tour we enjoyed lunch at a local restaurant. It was an enjoyable and educational day.
